The coloiir of the flowers is yellowish-gi^een with pui-ple markings; the paleaj
and Hp are dark pm-ple. The lateral sepals iu the plant fi'om which the drawing
was made moasiu'ed 7 inches in length. The flowers have a very unpleasant odour.
The neai-est allies of this ai-o the Bm-inese C. ColleUii, Hem'sl., and the Malayan C.

Terrestrial, slender; pseudo-bulb small, partly buried in the soil, bearing at
the apes a short 2- to 5-leaved stem. Leaves membranous, linear, plicate, sessile,
sheathing. Soape from the side of the pseudo-bulb, exceeding the leaves, bearing
a sioiple or slightly branched terminal las raceme of resupinate flowers rather more
than '5 in. long, gibbous at the base. Scpah connate in their lower half into a
narrow cylindric tube; the upper halves free, oblanceolate, spreading. Pcials eloDgatespathulate,
their narrow bases included in ttie sepiline tube. Lip adnate to the base
of the column, convolute, embracing the column; tlie basal part narrow, the anterior
part slightly expanded, and the mouth obscurely 3-lobed. Column loQg, slender, its
apex dilated and abruptly bent, not winged and with no foot. Anihor 4-cellod;
]}olUnia 4, in one row, unequal, without membrane or viscus. A single lapecies.

Pseudo-hilb ovoid. Stem in. long, sheathed at the base, bearing 2 to -5
membranous, toany-nerved, acuminate leaves, not petiolate, but sheathing at tiie
base, 6 to 12 iu. long and "4 to "7 iu. broad. 8ca2'>e longer than the leaves, rising
from the side of the pseudo-bulb, slender, erect, bearing several short tubular sheaths
"5 in. long. Racemc 3 to 6 in. long, sometimt-s with a branch, sparsely flowered.
Floivers -6 to •75 in. long, often at a wide angle with the hmg-stalked ovary; the
bract lanceolate, minute. Tube of the perianth longer than the free parts ; anterior
part of the lip cuneate, the apex tri-lobulate. Pollinia four iu a single row, unequal,

Nepal aud ia tho Khasia and Naga Hills ; also in Burma.
The flowers are rose-coloured, tho lip being white towards tho apex, with dark
purple spots, and the anther a brilliant yellow. A white-flowered variety is not

9. Ctrysoglossum, Blume.
Terrestrial with creeping rhizome, pseudo-bulbs narrow. Leaf solitary, plicate,
membranous, elliptic-lanceolate. Scaj'e from the rhizome near the pseudo-bulb, erect
tho raceme las. Sepals sub-equal, spreading, the lateral pair connate into a mentum
with the base of the lip. Petals slightly broader than the sepals. Lip usually auricled
near the base, adpressed to the column aud adnate to its foot, deflexed below the middle,
3-lobed, 3-lamellate. Column slender, with a very small spur, its sides auriculate
about the middle, sometimes lamellate in front. Anther triangular, S-eelled; pollinia
2, free, sub-globose or unequally four-sided.
A gemis for a long time supposed to bo confined to tbe Malayan region, but, as discovered by
Sil- Joseph. Hooker, q\dte as much Indian as ilalay.an, there being two species now known from India,
and one from Ceylon, besides tho two Mulnyan originally described by Blume, This genus resembles
Tni}da and Plooogloitis in habit, and to some extent Bulophh also. It is characterised by its bi-auriculate
column, small mentum (formed by the union of the bases of the column, lip and lateral sepals);
3-lobed Hp with a lai'ge aiu'iculated ba«e adnate to the column (not jointed); and perfectly free,
aub-globular or cmgled pollinia, and inembranous plicate leaves.

tapering to each end, about 12 in. long and 4 in. broad; petiole 4 iui Scape about as long

in. across; Jloral hract lanceolate, shorter than the long-stalked ovary. Sepals linear-oblong,
sub acute, the lateral pair falcate. Peláis oblong, obtuse, very falcate. Lip with a broad
base hastately 3-lobed, the lateral lobes rounded, the apical lobe sub-acutc with upturned
maigins. Disc with three lamella?, the central one shorter, tho two lateral diverging
at theii- apices. Column with two projecting rounded, lobes on its margins below tlie
middle, aud a short spur at its base; the face grooved and with two lamellce near tho
base aud above the entrance to the spur. Anlher apiculate.
