BIERMASNIA NIMACULATA, K i n g and PantHug,
Stem TOIY short. Leaves linear-obloug, narrowed to the base, sub-falcate, the
apex obliqiiely bifid, 2 in. long, and -JJo in. broad. Raceme stout, "75 in. long, compressed,
and with persistent triangular bracts. Flowers confined to the upper half of
the racliis, distichous, -35 in. in diam.; h-act broad, much shorter than the sessile
ovoi-y. Sepals sub-equal, oTate-lanccolate, apiculate, the lateral pair attached to the foot
of the cohimu. Petals shorter than the Bopals, ovate, sub-aeute. Lip springing at right
angles from the short foot and lying parallel to the column; its side lobes narrow,
elongate, falcate, erect, acuminate at the apex; apical lobe triangular, very fleshy and
•with two flat calli on its upper surftico at the base where the sido lobes end; the
disc between the side lobes with larger elongate calli near its liuion with the foot.
Styim large, llostillim short. 'Folhnia 2, ovoid, the caudicle oblaneeolate; the gland

The flowers arc white with two blotches of brown on the ealli of the lip. They

Epiphytal, without peudo-bulbs. Stem very short. Leaoes few, softly coriaceous^
broadly oblong, flat, crowded. Injlomcenee supra-axillary, racemose or panicled. Sepals
t!ub-eq\uil, spreading, incurved at the apex; the lateral pair obliquely obovate. Petals
nnich smaller, cuneate-oblong, blunt. Lip much longer than the sepals, adnate to the
foot of the column by a long brosid claw ; the claw with a rectangularly bent snbcyhndric
spui- at its junction with the apical lobe ; side lobes shallow, sub-quadrate ;
apical lobe with three lobules, the two lateral recurved and- pectinate, tlie central
triangular, entire and infolded ; the mouth of the spur closed by two calli projecting
from its back and front walls; the latter hairy. Column short, cylindric, stout, with
a short foot ; the rosteUum forked ; the sti¡jma circular, surrounded by a hairy rim.
Anther oblong. Pollinia 2, sub-globose; caudicle very broad, obcuneate, gland large.

Khasia Hills, Burma.
The ground colour of the flowers is greenish-yellow; the sepals and petals have
bold bauds of brown, and the pectinate lateral lobules of the Hp are also brown passing
into pm-ple below.

Epiphytal, with a-igid terete sheathed stems woody below, usually erect (pendulous
in L. volv.eris). Leaves terete, fleshy, distant, spreading. Flowers usually small and dull
iu colour, in short extra-axillary spikes with stout axes; floral Iract shoit, scaaious,
persistent. Sepals sub-equal or the depressed dorsal, smaller. Petals equal to the sepals or
much longer, spreading. Lip sessile on the base of the column, divided into two parts;
the hypochilo saccate, concave or flat; and the epicliile decurved, broad aud ridged, entire
or crenate, undulate, more or less blunt. Column much shorter than the lip, stout. Stif/ma
usually laa-ge. Anther broad, 2-cellcd. Pollinia 2, ovoid or sub-globose, attached by a
broad caudicle to a sub-quadrate or elongate gland. Capsule narrow, ridged, sub-erect.
Species about 15; mostly tropical Asiatic, a few Australasian.

Stem 5 to 7 in. long, rather stout, not branching. Leaves rather long, slender,
spreading, -15 to '2 in. thick, and 4-5 to 5-5 in. long, the intemodes -75 in. long.
Spikes about '2 iu. long, 4- to 5-flowcred. Flowers -4 in. long; floral iract minute,
triangular. Sepals sub-equal, oblong, blunt; the lateral pair somewhat broader and subcymbifoim,
not keeled. Petals narrowly oblong, falcate, sub-acute,. slightly exceeding
the dorsal sepal in length. Lip as long as the sepals, broadly oblong, quite entii-e
except for two triangular indentations near the base, the apes sub-acute; the upper surface
slightly concave at the base, the disc not fui-rowed. Column short, the stigma transversely
