broader than the latei-al, oblong, blunt; the lateral lobes linear, falcate, tlicir apices
diverging; sjmr small, oToid, much contracted at the nock, shorter than the sepals

The colour is green througliont.
A widely distributed species rarj-ing as to its lip, which is said to be in some
siKcnnens only obtusely «-tootJ^ed, while in others it is deeply tripartite and the side
Jobes are long and resemble tentacles. Tlie flowers are very small and the material in
<^ollectio]is IS scanty, -\^'e have followed Kriintzlin in adopting lieichenbach's name for
this rather than Bentham's, as the forjner is the oldei^. For the Sikkim form of tiio
plant It IS, however, very inappropriate, as no part of the flower suggests tentacles It
appears to be in Ho.ig-Kong only that plants are found wit), nmch elongated side lobes
to the hp, and It was for these that Lindley siig-gestcd tlie name Ghmda teniaadata
(Bot. Reg., t. 862). This is allied to //. arlstata, IL;ok. fil., but is cHstinguishcd from
that species by having its leaves radical and not scattered along the stem, and by
having flowers only about one-third as largo. In //. arktata, moreover, the- lip is
narrowed at the base and has linear hoiizontal side lobes; whereas iu this the lip is
broad at the base and is divided near the middle into three linear lobes, all of wliich
arc decui'vcd.

"Wliolo plant 4 to 12 in.; iiihcrs small, ellipsoid. Stem 1 to 3 iu. long, with two
tubular blunt sheaths at the base. Leaf solitary (in Sikkim specimens), narrowly
elliptic, acute, tapering slightly to the short sheath; length 1'5 to G in., breadth "40
to "75 in. ; peduncle of spike long, with a single linear lanceolate acuminate bract.
Spike 1-5 to 4 in. long, rather laxly-flowered. Floiucn (to the end of the lip) '35 in.
at tlie mouth; Jloral Iraet lanceolate, shorter tliau or as long as the slightly decuiwed
0'\-aiy. Sepals sub-equal, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, the dorsal connivent with the
petals to form a hood; the lateral pair erect, non-connivcnt, but not spreading. Pétala
varj-ing in size, oblong, blunt. lAp not much longer than the sepals, rather fleshy,
hastately 3-lobed from about the middle; the apical lobe oblong, obtuse, do flexed, longer
than the two oblong blunt slightly diverging side lobes; the base trimcate and ^^itil
a saccate spin- much shorter than the sepals, 2-ribbcd in the interior. Column rather
long. Aiither-cells discrete, parallel, without tubes; polUnia clávate, the caudicles short,
stout, tapering to the small cordate glands; siaminodes small, attached about the middle
of the outer suj-faces of the anther-cells. Stir/mas two, transversely oblong, touching by
llicir ends aud forming a band across the colimm below the anther-cells. Ilcrmimum

The flowers arc green throughout. Lindley at first named tliis Uerininnm, but he
subsequently transferred it into his genus Pmstyliis -n-hich has since been i-educed to
Ilabcnaria. We think it ougiit to be in Ridienai-ia, having a very distinct wide spur
and a lip much resembling those of otiier species in the section Peristylus, in which
we have therefore placed it. Specimens from the western Himalaya have often two
leaves ^^'hich are sub-ojiposite.

sheath; length 8 to 7 in., breadth 1-25 to 3-5 in.; stem above the leaves with a few
lineai'-lanceolate acuminate bracts, 1-25 to '5 in. long, diminishing upwards. Spi/,'e

the erect shortly beaked oTOiy. Sepals sub-equal, ciliolate, oblong, obtuse, the dorsal
