Extending along the base of tlio Himalaya -westward to Gliarwal. In the Khasia Hills,
the b£U30 of the ranges of Peninsular India and of Ceylon, the Malay Ardiipelago and
S. Chhia.
The flowers ai-e greenish-wliitc, often flushed with pink; tho terminal lobe of the
lip being pui-plish. There is some variation in the size of the bracts ^-hich sheatli the
scape, but the vaiiations ai-e not constant.

Terrestrial, glabrous, pseudo-bulbous. Leaf solitary, petiokte, membranous, nianyuerved.
Sca2^e tall, erect, originating ñ-oin the base of the pseudo-bulb. Flowers racemose,
rather smaU and of a dull colom-. Scjjah and petals sub-equal, nan-ow; the lateral sepals
falcate, forming with the short foot of tho column a small bhmt mentam. Lip more
or less hastately 3-lobcd, the lateral lobes small, tho terminal broad, the disc with
several lamellaj. Column sliglitly winged towards the apox. Aniher short, broad, with
two blunt often highly coloored bosses. PolUnia 8, uncq^ual, nnited in fours to a granulur
membrane. Species eighteen or twenty, Indo-Malayan and Cliinese.

Rhizome stout, with woolly roots. Pseudo-hulbs narrowly fusiform, inclined, about
1-5 in. apart, obliijue, slightly cni-ved, I'o to \-7b in. long, often covered with a
fibrous Bheath. Leaf plicate, membranous, narrowly elliptic, tapering to each end,
5 or 6 in. long, and I'o to 2'35 in. broad; petiole channelled, 2 to 2'5 in. long
Scape from the base of the pseudo-bulb, erect, slender, as long as or longer than the
leaf, tuberous at the base and enveloped in several unequal tubular sheaths; the raceme
occupying the upper half and beaiing seven or eight distant flowers '6 in. long; floral
hraci Hneai'-lanceolate, slightly shorter than the stalked ovary. Sepals free, spreading,
narrowly oblong, blunt, the lateral pair sub-falcate. Petals like tho lateral sepals, all
S-nerved. Lip narrowly cuneate-elliptic, 3-lobed, tha lateral lobes far forward, small,
sub-acute; the terminal lobe broad, short, erose, obtuse, its upper siu-face with five narrow
unequal ridges; the disc between the side lobes with three broad lamellai. Mcnium short
blunt. Column slightly winged towards the apes, the foot very short. Anther short,
broad, with two obtuse bosses. Pollinia unequal, cohering in fours to a granular membrane.

TAINIA.
Sikkim, on Mahalderam peak, elevation 6,000 feet; King, Clarke; Pantling No. 210;
also at Choonthang; in flower during July. Bhutan; Biermann.
The sepals, petals, ovury and rachis of the raceme are of a pui-plish-browu, the two
former being streaked with a darker shade; the lower half of the lip is white, speckled
towards the sides with bro^vnish-purple, tho anterior part bemg yellow. The column and
anther are green. Specimens of this are mixed with the species issued by Wallich as
No. 7^46 of his Catalogue under the name Cuhnlhe lAanfa^inca.

•75 in. thick. Leaf plicate, elliptic, acute, peliolate; Isngth 9 to 12 in., breadth 2'25
to 4 in.; petiole 3-5 to o in,, channelled. Seojje 18 to 36 in. long, bearing several long
tubular sheaths in the lower part and at the apes a lax many-flowered raceme 6 to
9 in. long. Flowers '6 or '7 in. long; floral Iract small, linear-lanceolate, much shorter
than tho stalked ovary. Sqmls and petals sub-equal, erecto-patent or spreading, lineai--
oblon^', acute. Lip narrowly oblong-panduriform, 3-lobed, not spurred; the lateral lobes
email, tooth-like, divergent; the terminal lobe largo, bluntly triangular, the upper surface
with a narrow central and two broad lateral lamelte running from tho base nearly to
the apex. Menium veiy short, blunt. Column narrow, curved, with a very short foot.
Anther short, broad, with two crimson bosses. Pollinia in four.s, broad, unequal,

The sepals and petals, the pedicels of the ovaries and the rachis of the inflorescence
are of a uniform dark brown, the lip and column are yellow, and the pseudo-bulbs
olive green.

stout rhizome, and enveloped in a Iraei which sheaths also the petiole nearly to its
