Sikldm, common along the base of the range and ascending to 3,000 feet; in.
flower dining May and June; Pantling, No. 443. Westward to Nepal. In the Khasia
Hills, Sylliet, Chittagong and Burma; also in Cocliin China, Cliina and Jara.
The flowers are very fragrant. The prevailing coloni- in them is white with
numerous pink spots.

The ground colour of tho flowers is *whito, but they are freely marked with
pink or purple. The species is closely allied to JE. FieUingii, Lodd., but that is a
more robust plant and has wider leaves, which are flat. Its flowers, moreover, are
rather larger. uE. FieUingii has not been recorded from Sikkim.

Epiphytic. Stem elongate, stout, leafy. Leaves very coriaceous, liuear-oblong, truncately
or bluntly bilobed at tho apex, liacemes pendulous, many-flowered. Flowers brightly
coloured. Sepals and petals spreading, broad, obtuse, the petals nan-ower than the sepals.
Lip aduate to tho short foot of the column, tlie hypochile forming a deep wide
pubescent sac without side lobes; the epichile obovate, acute, concave, the margins erect.
Column short, stout, dilated at the base and with a veiy short foot. Tho stigma small.
Anther tei-minal, rounded; pollinia two, elliptic, attached by a slender long caudicle to
the small oblong gland. Species two or thi-ec, Malayan and Indian.
