The flowers arc yellow, the lip having red lines in its basal half.

bracts few, seattored, fleshy, evnte, eymbifonn, unequal, those on the flowering

The colour of the floweis is yellbw, mth red markings at the base of the lip
and on the anther.

Ehhom an inch thick, reddish, clothed in large cordate fleshy scales. Skim 4 or o
feat higlr, bearing numerous short acate sheaths in the lower half, fnrfm-aceous Kte the

Sopak sub-eqnal, the dorsal elliptic oblong, the latsral pair wider, oil with strong, toothed,
wavy rihs oitomally. FeM, broadly ovate, blunt, longer than the sepals, the margihl
ciKate. Lip cnp-shapcd with a very narrow obscurely 3-lobed border; the whole upper
sm-face papillose, but bearing at the base, just below the column, a small smooth glabrous
chamber; the disc lamellate, the margins ciKolate. Oohmn clavate, slightly cui-ved forwards
and bearing two erect grandar processes near its base. Aathr boldly papillose,

This is one of tho most staiking orchids in Sikkim. Tho stems are bro-wnishpm
ple in coloiu-, becoming paler and yellowish upwards. Tho flowers arc bright yellow
throughout, with a rcddiah patch on the lip at each side of the column. The anther
is coloured crimson-lake.

Rhizome 1'5 to 2-5 in. thick, brandling, clothed with large fleshy triangular scales.
Stems 6 to 10 feet in height and about one inch in thickness at the base, bearing at
intervals lanceolate to triangular acute bracts one to two inches in lengtli. Panicle 2
to 3 feet long, its branches 3 to 9 in. long, drooping, lax. Flowers of a spongy
texture; hract lanceolate, concave, '5 in. long, shorter than tho short stalk of the ovary.
Ovary 1'5 to 2 in. long. Sepals sub-equal, broadly ovate, sub-acute, sparsely furfuraccous
like the ovary. Petals ovate, acute, the edges erose. Lip sessile, without side lobes,
deeply concave, the base -with a small fold forming a pseudo-nectary imder the column,
the apex rounded, the margins undulato-ciliolate ; the upper sm-faco papillose but with
a broad glabrous patch in the middle. Column stout, slightly clavate and somewhat bent
foi-ward. Anther fleshy, glabrous, its lip entii-e. Pollinia two, much compressed, thin,
oblique in outline. Capsule oblong, 3-aoglcd, sub-falcate, 9 in. long, sub-fiu-finuceous.

Sikkim, at elevations of 5,000 to 7,000 feet; Thomson, Pantling No. 87; not now
common. Westward along the range to Gharwal ; in flower dm-ing July and August.
The flowers of this are of a bright yellow coloui- and have an odoui- of vanille.
The ripe capsules are pale brown. This closely resembles G. Lindiei/ana, of which
Sil- Joseph Hooker suggests that it may be a variety; but it has larger flowers than
that plant ; also larger, less fin-furaceous and much more ehai-ply-angled sub-falcate
capsules. The rhizome also is very much stouter.
