The coloration of the flowers of this species is vanaWe; but as a rule, m the
Sikkim specimens, the sepals and petals are ochraceous with reddish t.ps and with
reddish or oran.ro veins. The lip is also ochraceous, but has two large browmsh-purple
snots inside ils cup. The column is yellow and the anther purple. The odour i. sweetish
with a soupçon of rhubarb or mnsk. In other provinces the ochraceous colour m
t h e flowers is replaced by white or by golden yellow, and the lip is not blotched with
purple. The earliest name of this is undoubtedly Bpipmdrum » r f a i « , and it was
published in the year 1800 in the first edition of Syme's Embassy to Aya. The
name was repeated in tho much later second edition of the same work. Wall.ch s name
DeMum dates from 1825; whereas Carey's name, D. calcolana, was not
published until 1827.

Common along tho base of tho Sikkim-Himalaya ; Pantling No. 262 ; flowering from
March to May. Assam, Chittagong, Bm-ma and Perak ; at the base of hill ranges.
I^istrib. Southern China.
The flowers of typical D. agt^regatum on first expansion ai-e primrose yellow; but
the colour deepens into orange, the lip having a dark patch near its base. The specific
name D. Jenkinsii was given by Wallich to the form in which the pseudo-bulbs are very
short and the flowers are either solitary or in a 2-flowered raceme. This form has,
however, been repeatedly found growing in the same clumps with plants having pseudobulbs
of the ordinary length, and such as are found in typical D. aggrf^atum. Wo
retain it as a variotv, although it hai-dly deserves even varietal rank.
