Whole jilant ahoxit 3 to 4 fcefc high, Stem stout, -5 iu. thick, glabrous. Icares
obliquely oblong-olliptic, tapering to tho araiiÜDate apex and tlio long narrow base, 6 to
10 in. long and 1-75 to 4 in. broad; the petiole l-2o to 2 in. long, sheathing -w-idely in
its lower part. Poduiicle slender, glaudidar-pubcscont. Eacemo 8 to 10 in. long, its racliis
and the bracts aud ovaries glaudular-jjubcscent, rather deuscly-fiowered. Flowers -5 in.
long; floral Iract linear-Ianecolato, acuminate, one-third to one-half as long as the cyliudric

'J'he colour of the sepals and petals is palo gTcen, and that of tho lip and column
pale brown.

the whole, leafy below, bracteate above, Leaves obliquely elliptic, sub-acute, 3-neived,
to 4 in. long aud I'O to 2 in. broad; petiole channelled, much dilated and tubular at
the base, 2 to 2-u in. long; bracts in the upper part of the stem about three, unequal,
lanceolatc, acuminate, tubular at the base, 1 to l-3-> in. long. Peduncle abotit 2-o in. long,
I)ubescent. Racemc i-ather densely-flowered, twice as long as tho peduncle. Fhtvers -7

The flowers of this arc of a dull red. This species in general appeai-ancc much
resembles G. foliosa, lieuth., but has shorter floral bracts. The details of tho flowers
of the two are also different. This, however, differs from all tho species of tho genus
described in the present work by tho clavate callosity on the anterior surface of tho
column below tho stigma.

Terrestrial herbs with succulent glabrous stems, decumbent at tho base. Leaves
membranous, sometimes withered at flowering-time. Flotvers small, in i-acemes or spikes.
Sepals sub-equal; the dorsal concave and forming a hood with the potáis; tlie lateral
pair free. Lip adnata to the base of tho column, cymbiform or saccate; tho apical lobe
shortly clawed or sessile, divided into two oblong sub-quadrato moro or less truncate
diverging lobules, or entire, or with narrow decurved lobulos; the sac at the base with
calli or lamiuie inside. Column very short, its anterior surface with lamellar or conical
processes. Stigmas two, lateral, distant (united iiito a narrow baud in Z. pulchra). Anther
membranous, sometimes ridged, its cells contiguous; pollinia pyriform, attached by an
oblong glaud to the erect rostellum. Species about 15, natives of tropical Asia aud
Africa.
