FROM the brief and uncertain defcriptions which occur in tlie writings of travellers, it appears
that feveral animals of the Cat kind exifl: in many parts of Africa which arc ftill but very imperfeftly
known. The beautiful fpecies figured on this Plate has but lately been defcribed with
fufficient exaanefs to afcertain it as a diftinft fpecies. The following account of it is given in
