THE difeafe called the Dyfentery is uncommonly prevalent in many parts of Abyflinia, particularly
in low fituations. In thefe diftrifts, and indeed in moll parts of that country, is found
the Ihrub reprefented on the annexed Plate, and from long experience it has been found by the
natives to be the moft efficacious remedy for that difeafe.
Mr . Bruce, in his Abyflinian travels, fays, " Thi s ilirub is a produftion of the greateft
part of Abyffinia, efpecially the fides of the valleys in the low country, or Kolla, where dyfentenes
reign continually. Heaven having put the antidote in the (âme place where grows the
poifon."
Mr . Bruce being feverely afflifted with this complaint, was advifcd to make life of the
Wooginoos, (fo the flirub is called in Abyffinia) which he did with the greateft fuccefs. It is
the bark of the root that is chiefly ufed, which is of a light brown colour and wrinkled. Af ter
