Yellow Motacilla, with the upper part of the head and rump orange, the wings and rail brown,
the throat deep blue.
THE genus Motacilla, contalnmg the major part of the foft-billed fong-birds, or warblers, is
extremely numerous. In general the Motacillas are birds of a fmalliili fize: they are infedivorous,
and chiefly frequent woods and fliady places: they are remarkable for the delicacy of
their note, in which they feem to excel moft other birds, except thofe of the genus Turdus.
T h e Motacilla figured on this Plate is one of the larger birds of the genus, and is highly diftinguiihed
by the beauty of its colours: the prevailing colour being pale yellow, which on the
upper part of the head and neck, and on the rump, is heightened into a bright and beautiful
orange: the wings and tail are brown, and on the fore part of the neck is a patch o f the dcepeil
blue, beginning at the bafe of the lower mandible, and tending downwards; between the bill
and eye, on each fide, is a fmall patch of white: the bill and legs are pale brown. It is a
native of India.
