Short-tailed variegated Parrot, with the head and neck red, the bill and eyes bounded below
with white, the eyebrows and breaft yellow.

THIS Parrot, which belongs to the divifion in the genus containing the Pfittaci brachyuri, or
ihort-tailed Parrots, is of that fort generally known by the name of Lories. Thefe Parrots are
natives of the Eaft Indies, and are remarkably docile and talkative. The prefent fpecies however
is fuppofed to be a native of Guinea. Its length is about ten inches: the bill is black;
the cere white; the throat and fpace round the eye white: above each eye is a patch of yellow:
the reft of the head and neck crimfon: the breaft yellow; the wing-coverts green; the
quills blue, very flighdy edged with yellow: the remainder of the bird on the lower parts is
white; but the tip of the tail is red: the legs are duflcy, and the claws black. The fpecies of
Parrots are fo very numerous, and fometimes vary ib much in point of plumage, that a very
confiderable degree of caution and circumfpeiStion is neceflary in examining and determining
both fpecies and varieties.
