FRINGILLA FORFICATA.
C H A R A C T E R SPECIFICUS.
FringUla collo peftoreque uropygioque lutels, dorfo oliváceo, cauda longiffima forficata nigrocieiulea,
capite ciifta dependente nigra.
S P E C I F I C CHARACTER.
Finch with the neck breaft and ramp gold-colour, the back olive, the tail very long, forked,
and of a blueiih-black; the head furniihed with a black pendent creft.
THIS beautiful bird, which is Ibppofed to be a native of the ifland of Ceylon, feems to be a
ipecies hitherto unknown, and it is perlraps not entirely clear whether it might not with equal
propriety be confidered as a fpecies of Mufcicapa, or Flycatcher, though the vibriffse or bridles,
fituated at the bale of the beak in die birds of that genus, are not expreflèd in the figure annexed.
In its habit however, or general appearance, it feems more nearly to refemble a Mufcicapa
than a Fringilla, or Finch. This is a particular which can only be determined by an
accurate examination of the bird itfelf.
