Stem suffruticose, erect, very rugged and uneven,
occasioned by the persistent stipules. Branches short,
crowned with a tuft of leaves. Leaves rigid, nearly orbicular,
obtuse, sharply and deeply toothed, smooth
and shining on both sides; nerves pubescent. Petioles
very long, slightly flattened, and furrowed on the upper

Stipules lanceolate, sometimes cordate, keeled, and
ending in an acute point. Peduncles branched; umbels
