Stem shrubby, erect. Branches thickly clothed

spreading villous hairs, as are the peduncles, bractes,
and calyx. Stipules cordately lanceolate, taper-pointed,
sometimes toothed and ciliate. Peduncles long and
cylindrical, 5 to 8-flowered. Involucre of 6 or 7 lanceolate,
acute, fringed bractes. Pedicles longer than

reflexed. Nectariferous tube longer than the calyxr
flattened and furrowed on each side, a little swollen at
the base. Petals 5, the two upper ones obovate,
oblique, of a pale scarlet, with a large dark spot in the
centre, and numerous dark lines from the base which
branch in various directions; lower petals ligulate,
rather paler. Filaments 10, united at the base, 7 bearing
anthers. Pollen orange-coloured. Germen and
aristae villous. Style red, very hairy on the lower part
and smooth on the upper. Stigmas 5, purple, reflexed.
