summit of Mount Gede, and also of the Cape of Good Ho p e ,
at an elevation of from one to th re e thousand feet.
In tro d u c ed into the Royal Gardens, Kew, in 1775.
T his species is so different in many respects to the genus
Cheilanthes, th a t it has been called an A d ia n tum b y Linnæus,
a Casseheera b y li’resl, and a P te r is b y Houttuym. However,
having the tru e involucres of a Cheilanthes, Sir AA^illiam
Ho o k e r has v ery p ro p e rly placed it in th a t genus.
