T h e frond tria n g u la r in form, glabrous, cordately five-angled,
and trip a rtite ; the th re e p rim a ry divisions pinnatifid, th e ir
base b ipinnatifid; pinnæ opposite, the basal pair auriculate
below. T h e frond somewhat concave; margin of frond crenate.
Rachis and stipes ebeneous, of a red d ish colour, slightly
h a iry n ear th e base, and destitute of farinose powder. Rhizoma
sh o rt, th ick , and creeping.
Veins forked.
Sori everywhere continuous; indusium v ery broad, transversely
waved, and crenated. Seed-vessels black and copious, giving
the frond th e appearance of a marginal black belt.
L e n g th of frond four inches, of which the lower two inches
and a q u a rte r is naked.
This species I raised from spores gath e red in Siberia.
