Pro n d s glabrous; tria n g u la r, or more freq u en tly elongatetriangula
r in form; bipinnatifid, with oblong-obtuse segments.
Rachis and stipes ebeneous, a few red d ish brown long scales
n ear the base; terminal, and adhe ren t to an erect fasciculate
rhizoma. T h e frond densely covered beneath with a white
farinose powder; colour above d u ll green.
Sori lin e a r, continuous, and eventually becoming confluent.
In dusium extending th ro u g h o u t every segment of th e frond.
L en g th of frond from twelve to twenty-four inches, of w hich
the lower h a lf is naked.
Rachis and stipes densely covered with a white farinose
powder.
Basal pinnæ eared below.
T h e re are two Varieties of this species:—
Var. 1, almost destitute of powder. F o u n d at Oaxaca,
Mexico, by M. Galleotti.
Var. 2, small, compact, and rigid. F o u n d at Madras, b y
D r. Mnght. T his is the Cheilanthes rigidula of AVallich.
