F e e d s upo n th e everlafting. One caterpillar tied itfelf u p the 25th o f April,
changed th e 26th, came forth a fly th e 8 th o f May. Another th a t did n o t change
till the 7th o f May, came out th e l6 th . This caterpillar folds and fpins th e leaves
together like th a t o f the Englilh Painted-Lady, P. Cardui. I t continues breeding
during th e fummer, and is very commonly feen fucking up moifture from damp
places near houfes.
This had long been confidered as the fame fpecies with P. Cardui, till Fabricius feparated
them, and their metamorphofes confirm his opinion. It is one of thofe infiances of American
infefts, like feveral plants of that country, being very fimilar to thofe of Europe, but
not the fame.
