T h e food o f this fpecies is the Sweet Gum, different kinds o f W a ln u t, and th e Per*
limon (Diojpyros virginiana). One o f them Ipun itfelf up 31 ft May, came out 18th
Ju n e ; anothe r 23d Ju n e , came o u t 10th Ju ly ; and a th ird wh ich did n o t Ipin till
September 6, remained in the chrylalis till March 3d. It continues breeding all
fummer long, b u t is n o t very plentiful. T h e fly is difficult to preferve from decay
in boxes or cabinets. Thofe th a t come forth in th e fummer are moftly o f a w hitifh
o r pale green, b u t fuch a variety o f colour feems only accidental. T h e web o f this
is much thinner th an th a t o f th e foregoing. T h e Phalcena Luna has alfo been bred
in England.
