Diameter 170; depth 65
Based on Bourdon’s pressure gauge, barometric variations on a curved
evacuated tube causes it to flex, and in consequence tft: pointer Is
moved. The French engineer and inventor Eugène Bourdon (1808-
1884) produced in 1849 a metallic manometer for measuring pressures
on steam engines. Here the principle is applied to barometric pressure.
Bourdon was sued for patent infringement'by Lucien Vidie (see 462).
For a demonstration apparatus, see 465. Associated with this instrument
is a case covered in black leather, and lined with royal blue velvet;
diameter 193; depth 80. Purchased in 188-5 for Dfl. 48.50, ¡¡¡rick
