Air pressure acts on a brass capsule that is partly evacuated, and its
movements are transmitted to a pointer. The invention was patented in
1845 by Lucien Yidie (1805-1866). The patent was challenged by
Bourdons barometer (see 464). Associated with fhis instrument is. i
wooden case covered with black paper, and lined with purple velvet;
180 x 17? x 61. The catch is marked BTÉ SGDG [Breveté sans garantie
