4. Balance. Mahogany base (530 x 200 x 70) holds a drum (diameter
154) of cream-painted brass with tinplate lid. Two pipes protrude below
the drum. Inside is a cylindrical metal float with domed top, which
floats in water contained in the drum. Float diameter 118, height 200.
Also on base is metal pillar (height 350), which supports on friction
wheels a balance beam (length 390) of tinplate, also painted cream with
gold decoration. Signed on plaque at base of drum: GEORGE WILSON
'S GRAVENHAGEN° 1901.

5. Screen. Mahogany box (445 x 100 x 105), with sliding lid on which
is a white enamel plaque inscribed: METHVEN'S SCREEN ALEXANDER
WRIGHT & C° ENGINEERS WESTMINSTER S.W. N°
285- In box is the glass tube screen (length 150, diameter 44), marked:
Wright Westminster [and] Jena" Glas / SCHOTT &C Gen. Jena. This is
boro-silicate glass, which is heat resistant. Burner inscribed on the back:

6. Box. Made of deal (330 x 205 x 295), blackened (no lid), probably
used to support other pieces of apparatus. Contains:
1 Argand burner signed: A. WRIGHT & C° LTD SOLE
MAKERS GRAFTON ARGAND N° 20.
7 more of similar type; 2 others signed: AS CERTIFIED BY
BOARD OF TRADE BURNER 16 CANDLE GAS.
9 tinplate lamp covers.

7, 8. Burner. Mahogany box (230 x 190 X 155), with blackened metal
hoop above. Overall height 405. Hole in centre of box which holds a
white ceramic dish (diameter 140) surrounding an iron jet fitting, with
metal hooks above, and two inlet pipes below. Trough round inner edge
of dish. Gold decoration on the outside rim, with trade mark showing
an S-shaped snake on a portcullis (S for Sugg over badge of the City
of Westminster).
