179 Two mercury-in-glass thermometers with their bulbs in a clear
liquid contained in glass capsules. Each with brass cap at the
top with knob for suspension chord.
1. Overall length 275. Scale on opal glass 57° to -29°,
inscribed: Celsius.
2. Overall length 220. Scale on opal glass 60° to -38°,
inscribed: Celsius.
982 Back of scale on opal glass inscribed: Centigrade thermometer
nach Beckmann J.C. Th Marius Utrecht. The thermometer is
enclosed in an outer glass tube, with a nickel-plated top. Scale
-0.1° to 5.95° divided to 0.01°. Length 538. Vernier scale -20
to 140; in cylindrical case. Ernst Beckmann (1888): “Über die

enclosed in an outer glass tube, with a nickel-plated top. Scale
-0.1° to 5.95°, divided to 0.01°. Length 529. Vernier at top,
scale 0 to 140.
1022 Inscribed: Centigrade Heinze in Aachen
Brass end cap; extremely sensitive; numbering on scale now
illegible. Museum record says scale from -11.5°C to 114.5°C,
divided 0.1°C. Length 540; in cylindrical case.

and all dated to 1892. Purchased in 1892 at Dfl. 4.80 each. The Teyler
