 Brass,  copper,  iron,  and  lead  rods  bent  to  L-shape,  with  squares  
 attached to one end. Also, lead, iron, and copper cylinders. Intended for  
 use in heat experiments.  Rods  305  x  17;  squares 20 x 22;  cylinders  
 85x25.

 Diameter lamp base 140; length clockwork housing 115; over;  
 all height  145 
 Main  part  tinplate,  bronzed,  consisting  of  container with  inlet  and  
 wick above,  and at side,  cylinder with  air vent,  containing clockwork 
 mechanism, with  ornate  key.  Clockwork drives  air  into  outer  part  of  
 lamp and up round wick. Paraffin contained in inner reservoir. 
 This  and  the  following  lamp  were  together  purchased  in  
 January 1876 for Dfl. 48.30. 
 461  OIL LAMP  (215)  1876 
 Base diameter  150; overall height 385 
 Not signed, but obviously of same make as 460. Lamp is classic pillar  
 style, with  clockwork mechanism  in  the  base,  removable  from  underneath. 
   Main  part  non-ferrous,  bronzed,  with  bright  brass  banding.  
 Same clockwork mechanism as 460. Lamp has wire framework to hold  
 shade round wick.
