SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips within the blossoms,
which are extremely clammy, in whorls, horizontal,
and of a pale green, half an inch long, and ribbed.
Leaves by sixes.
DESCRIPTION.
STU upright, two feel high. The branches are
simple, long, and whorled.
Lr.Avrs grow by sixes, are linear-pointed and
smooth, slightly furrowed, and spreading.
FLOWERS grow near the ends of the branches,
pressed together in hnri/.nntal whorls. The footstalks
are short, having diree iloral leaves pressed
to the cup.
F.MPAI.EMENT. Cup four-leaved, which are
lanccshaped, clammy, and pressed to the blossom.
BLOSSOM cylindrical, half an inch long, of a
pale green, very clammy, shining and ribbed, the
segments of the mouth slightly reflexed.
CHIVES. Fight hair-like threads; dps beardless,
and within the blossom.
POINTAL. Seed-vessel turban-shaped, furrowed
and silky at the upper part. Shaft thread-shaped.
Summit four-cornered.
