SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips within the blossom:
flowers grow by fours, slender, and white: leaves
by fours, linear, and smooth : stem slender.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, weak, a foot or more high:
the small and large branches are thread-shaped,
and twiggy.
LEAVES by fours, linear, blunt, smooth, erect,
and spreading.
FLOWERS grow by fours at the ends of the
small branches: footstalks short, and furnished
with three awl-shaped floral leaves.
EMPALEMENT four-leaved: leaflets of a yellowish
green, lance-shaped, and pressed to the
blossom.
BLOSSOM trumpet-shaped, and very slender;
the segments of the border are sharp-pointed,
spreading, and very white; the tube is o f a
transparent white.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads; tips beardless,
and within the blossom.
POINT At. Seed-bud turban-shaped, and furrowed.
Shaft thread-shaped. Summit fourcornered.
Native o f the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from July till December.
