SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips, -within the blossom:
shaft without. Flowers terminate the small
branches. Blossom bell-shaped, and flesh-coloured.
Leaves by threes, mucronated at the
end. Stem shrubby and branching.
DESCRIPTION".
STEM a foot and a half high, and shrubby.
The large and small branches are numerous,
erect, spreading or nodding.
LEAVES by threes, three-sided, smooth, between
erect and spreading, with a mucronated
point turned inward.
FLOWERS terminate the branches, and are from
3 to 6, nodding. Footstalks long, coloured,
with three mucronated floral leaves.
EMPALEMENT four-leaved. The leaflets are
ovate at the base, with a mucronated point, coloured,
and pressed to the blossom.
BLOSSOM bell-shaped, flesh-coloured : the segments
of the border are equal, and between erect
and spreading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads. Tips beardless,
and within the blossom.
P O I N T A L . Seed-bud turban-shaped, furrowed,
with honey-cups at the base. Shaft threadshaped,
and without the blossom. Summit
hollow.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope,
Flowers from May till August.
