HEATH, with beardless tips within the blossom:
leaves grow scattered, and are blunt-ended:
flowers grow in umbels, are white, sweet-scented
and bell-shaped : footstalks very long: branches
few, and simple.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, a foot high : branches few,
nearly upright, simple, and thread-shaped.
LEAVES g r ow scattered, sometimes by four?,
bowed, appearing toothed by small glands at the
edges, blunt-ended, flaltish on their upper surface,
and deeply furrowed beneath: footstalks
long.
FLOWERS numerous, growing in umbels at
the ends of the branches, and hanging down :
footstalks thrice the length of the blossom, yellowish,
clammy, and furnished with three minute
floral leaves,
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved : leaflets ovale,
viscous, and pressed to the blossom.
BLOSSOM bell-shaped, large, white, viscous,
shining, and honey-scented : segments rounded,
and reflexed.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads: tips beardless,
and within the blossom.
POINT A L. Seed-bud turban-shaped, furrowed,
with eight glands at the base of the seed-bud.
Shaft thread-shaped, and just without the blossom.
Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from April till July.
