H E A T H , with crested tips, within the blossom.
The flowers grow in umbels. Blossom pitchershaped,
and o f a deep flesh colour. The leaves
o f the cup are longer than the flower. Leaves by
threes. Branches twiggy.
D E S C R I P T I O N .
S T EM twiggy, a foot high. The small and
large branches are very flexuose.
LEAVES by threes, lance-shaped, three-sided,
flat on the upper surface, smooth, sharp-pointed,
pressed to the branches, and of a bright green.
FLOWERS terminate the small branches in umbels.
Footstalks flesh-coloured, and furnished
with three coloured floral leaves.
E M P A L E M E N T . Cup four-leaved ; leaflets spathnla
shaped, sharp - pointed, flesh-coloured,
greenish at the base, and longer than the flower.
BLOSSOM pitcher-shaped, of a deep flesh colour,
pale at the base. The segments of the
border are spreading, and sharp-pointed.
C H I V E S . Eight hair-like threads; tips crested,
and within the blossom.
P O I N T A L . Seed-bud turban-shaped. Shaft
within the blossom, and thread-shaped. Summit
four-cornered.
Native of the Cape o f Good Hope.
Flowers from June till September.
