DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS fruticosus, pedalis et ultra, teres et
dumosus.
FOLIA quatenia, Ii near ia, acuta, basi recurvata,
apice adscendentia, eiliata, nitida.
FLORES in ramulis terminales, fasciculati: pedunculi
purpurei, basi bracteis binis parvis oppositis
iustrueti.
CALYX tetrapbvHus, foliolis lanceolatis, acutis,
adpressis.
COROLLA magna, inllata, ovata, glabra, nitida,
ore aretata, quod pallide carneum est:
limbi laciniis a^qualibus, pateutibus, carneis, in
centro saturate rubris.
STAMINA. Filamcnta octo capillaria, Antliera?

PISTILLUM. Cermcn tiara'forme, sulcatum, ad

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with lips within the blossom, and twohorned
at their base : flowers terminal in
bunches: blossoms pitcher-shaped, and swelled :
leaves by fours, and linear: stem bushy.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM shrubby, a foot or more high, ruuud
and bushy.
LEAVES by fours, linear, pointed, with arecurved
base and an ascending poinl, ciliated,
and shining.
FLOWERS terminalc the branches in bunches:
footstalks purple, and furnished with two small
opposite floral leaves at their base.
E IMPALEMENT four-leaved : leaflets lanceshaped,
pointed, and pressed to the blossom.
BLOSSOM large, swelled, of an ovate form,
smooth, and shining ; narrowed at the mouth,
which is o f a pale flesh-colour: the segments of
the border are equal, spreading', flesh-coloured,
and o f a deep red in the centre.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads. Tips twohorned
at the base, and within the blossom.
P O I V T A L . Seed-bud turban-shaped, furrowed,
with honey-cups at their base. Shaft threadshaped,
and within the blossom. Summit fourcornered.
Native o f the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from April till August.
