ERICA, antheris muticis, sub-exsertis: floribus
terminalibus, longissimis, tubulosis, curvatis,
áurantiis: foliis quaternis et quinis: caulis fruticosus,
ramosus.
DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS erectus, frutíeosus, bipedalis: ramulis
numerosis, adscendetitibus.
FOLIA quatcrna et quina, liuearia, obtusa,
glabra, subtus sulcata.
FLORES in ramulis terminales, patentes, in umbellís
binis vel quaternis: pcdunculi breves, bracteis
tribus ad basin.
CALYX. Perianthium tetraphyllum: foliis subulatis,
glabris, supra canaliculatis, adpressis.
COROLLA longissima, curvata, clavata, superne
saturate aurantia, subtus flava: oris laeiuiis e.\-
pansis.
STAMINA. Filamenta. octo, capillaria, cúrvala,
longitudinc tubi. Antherse muriese.
PISTILLUM. Germen clavatum, sulcatum. Stylus
filifonnis, curvatus, exsertus. Stigma tetragon
um.
Habitat ad Caput Bona; Spei.
Floret a mense Martii in Junium.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
I l r VTH, with beardless tips, just without the
blossom : flowers terminal, and very long, tubular,
curved, and o f a g o ld colour: leaves by
fours and fives: stem shrubby, and braucbiiig.
DESCRIPTION".
STEM upright, shrubby, two feet high, with
numerous small ascending branches.
LEAVES by fours and lives, linear, obtu,e,
smooth, and furrowed beneath.
FLOWERS terminate the smaller branches,
spreading, in umbels of two to four: footstalks
short, with three floral leaves at the base.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved : leaflets awlshaprd,
smooth, channelled above, and pressed
to the blossom.
BLOSSOM very long, curved, club-shaped, of
a deep gold colour above, and yellow beneath :
the segments o f the border spreading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, which are
curved, and the length of the blossom. Tips
beardless.
POINTAI- . Seed-bud club-shaped, furrowed.
Shaft thread-shaped, curved, and without the
blossom. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from Mardi till June.
