D E S C R I P T I O N .
STEM brittle, a foot and a half high, upright,
and shrubby, with numerous small branches.
LEAVES by threes, linear, bowed, pointed,
smooth, and bundled.
FLOWERS grow singly, hanging down, and
forming a loose spike about the middle of the
branches: footstalks long, and coloured, with
three minute floral leaves on the lower part.
E M P A L E M E N T four-leaved : leaflets lanceshaped,
and pressed to the blossom.
BLOSSOM skittle-shaped, of a red purple colour
; the segments of the border are small, upright,
and yellow.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads: tips beardless,
and within the blossom,
P O I N T A L . Seed-bud oblong, lightly furrowed,
with honey-cups at the base. Shaft threadshaped,
without the blossom. Summit fourcornered.
