SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips, within the blossom:
leaves bristle-shaped, long, and crowded:
flowers grow in whorls, of a yellow colour:
stem upright.
I) INSCRIPTION.
STEM two feet high, upright, with simple
ascending branches.
LEAVES in sixes, sevens, or eights, erect,
crowded, and bristle-shaped: footstalks very
long.
FLOWERS grow in crowded whorls near the
ends o f the branches: footstalks short, and furnished
with three flora! leaves.
EMPALEMLNT four-lca\cd: leaflets lanceshaped,
and pressed to the cup.
BLOSSOM cylindrical, an inch long, yellow,
and slightly ribbed: segiueuts o f the border
nearly round, equal, and spreading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads: lips beardless,
and within the blossom.
POINTAL. Seed-bud turban-shaped, villose,
and furnished with honey-cups at the base.
Shaft lb read-nil aped, and ju-t within the blossom.
Summit four-cornered.

Flowers from July till October.
