SPECIFIC CHAEACTER,
HEATH, with tips two-horned at lire base, and
within the blossom: flowers grow singly from
the axilla; of the leaves, pitcher-shaped, of a
purple colour, and with very long footstalks:
leaves by fours: branches numerous: stem low.

AN elegant dwarf shrub ACTA branching: the
small and large branches are fteiuose, and betAveen
erect and spreading.
LEAVES by fours, linear, smooth, flat on their
upper surface, and furrowed beneath.
FLOAVERS an> numerous, and grOAV s i n g l y from
the axilla1 of the leaves about the middle of the
smaller branches, and often terminate t h e m : the
footstalks are very long, coloured, and furnished
at the base with three floral leaves,
E M P A L E A I E M . Cup four-leaved : the leaflets
are nvately pointed, and finely sawed.
BLOSSOM pitcher-shaped, of a bright purple
colour, smooth, and shining: the segments of
the border are equal, round, spreading, and
nearly relieved.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, w ith lips
two-horned at the base, and « illiiu the blossom.
POIMTAL. Seed-bud turban-shaped, Jong, and
furrowed. Shalt thread-shaped, andjust within
the blossom. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape o f Good Hope.
Flowers from April till September.
