SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardless tips, just without the
blossom; blossoms terminate the branches by
threes, are bell-shaped, and white; leaves by
threes, wedge-shaped, footstalks very long
DESCRIPTION.
A DWARFISH little shruh. Stem branching,
half a foot high. Branches spreading; the
smaller branches are numerous, and crowded together.
LEAVES by threes, spreading, and wedgeshaped,
broadish, and rather thick, shining, and
furrowed beneath ; with very long footstalks.
FLOWERS terminal, chiefly in threes, nearly
upright; peduncles very short.
EMPALEMENT double; the outer one threeleaved,
leaflets spatula-shaped ; the inner one is
four-leaved, longer than the outer, and broadly
egg-shaped at the base.
BLOSSOM bell-shaped, and white; with the segments
half round, and spreading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads; tips beardless,
just without the blossom.
POINTAL Seed-bud turban-shaped, and whitish.
Shaft thread-shaped. Summit four-angled, and
hollow.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
