Hp HE root is bulb-fhaped, of a pale violet colour about the
upper part, brownilh at the bale, where it emits ihort
fibres; it is deilitue of volva.
The Item two inches high, of a pale violet colour, and a foft
clothy furface; within it is white, and of a brittle fubftance;
while young folid, in decay becomes fiftular, and at'lafl. diffolves.
The gills- are in three feries, thin, pliable, numerous; while
frelh of 'a pale violet colour, which in decay vaniihes, and leaves
them of ä dufky hue.
The pileus is fmooth, feels like fine vellum, is convex and
deflected round* the margin, which is remarkably fmooth and entire;
while young it is clouded with violet colour; when old
changes to a duiky brown, and diffolves...
It is a rare fpecies. The fpccimens here defcribed, I gathered
in Oven den, in a little wood above OU-Lane-Mill, in October,
1 7 9 0 .
