Pileus firm, fleshy', convexo-plane, obtuse, always bent backwards,
two and a h a lf to four inches wide, even, smooth, pale ashy ; stem fibrous-
fleshy, solid, firm, two to four inches long, h a lf to one inch thick, equal,
somewhat elastic, glabrous, sh in in g ; flesh ra th e r th in b u t not compact,
w h ite ; gills constantly and equally emarginate, almost free, crowded,
narrow (about two lines), somewliat veined at th e sides, white. Solitary or
cæsqiitose, inodorous.—Fries.
Pileus b rig h t golden brownish yellow, d arker in th e c en tre ; gills
brownish yellow ochre, darker at margin ; stem stuifed ; flesh white. B ria r’s

T r ic h o l o m a s tip ite solido, obeso, apice squamuloso ; pileo carnoso, glabro,
margine tenui rugoso-sulcato ; lamellis em arg in atis, confertis.
Pileus fleshy, convexo-expanded, obtuse, g labrous; margin thin, strongly
involute, rugose, furrowed ; stem solid, obese, tu rn in g yellow, scaly a t the
apex ; gills emarginate, crowded, pallid th e n rufous. Of an unpleasant
odour and h itte r taste. In woods, late in th e autumn, growing in clusters.

Pileus rich yellow-brown, darker in th e centre, covered with adpressed
tomentum, and th e rim furrowed ; gills pale yellowish buff; stem sliort and
very stout, sometimes more swollen tliau in th e figure ; odour strong and
meal-like; spores '00017" dia. Growing amongst sh o rt underwood on the
ground, Greenings, ne a r Charlwood, Surrey, 29th Aug. 1868.
