Pileus somewhat fleshy, hell-shaped th en convex, at length expanded,
one to one and a h a lf inch wide, smooth or scaly, silky round th e margin
from th e veil, tawny, n o t h ygrophanous; stem fistulöse, about two inches
long, two lin e s thick, equal, tenacious, fibrous-silky, tu rn in g ferruginous
and red a t th e base, pale a t the apex ; ß e sh th in ; gills adnate, th in , ventri-
cose, th re e to four lines broad, crowded, a t first pale straw-coloured th en
clouded. I n pine-woods or tru n k s, or on th e ground ; solitary, scarcely
ever cæspitose.—Fries.

Pileus fleshy, membranaceous, convex th e n expanded, about one and a
h a lf inch wide, w hen fresh damp, yellow when dry ; stems fistulöse, two inches
long, one line to two lines wide, curved and often compressed, minutely
fibrillose-retieulated, white th e n ferruginous ; veil marginal, fimbriated,
white, very’ fugitive ; fle sh very th in , easily cut ; gills adnate, ventricose,
crowded, watery, weeping, fuscous. Cæspitose ; very fragile. Upon wood.

Stem hollow ; gills dark purplish umber, paler when young ; spores
dark qmrplish brown. Specimens gathered after much rain. Growing in a
dense tufted mass a t th e foot of a tre e in Cha rlton Lane, ne a r Dover, 91st
Oct. 1848.
