L epiota stipite solido; pileo carnoso, e convexo expanso. floccoso-sericeo. lasvi-
gato, fragih; annulo molli, membranáceo; lamellis liberis, latis, confertis
ventricosis.
Pileus fleshy, soft, convex th en expanded, obtuse, three inches or more
wide, floccose-silky, subfibrous, smooth, fragile, w h itish ; stem solid, two and
a qua rte r to four inches long, h a lf an inch or more thick, bulbous and root-
ess at th e base, soft, fragile, silky-fibrous, w h itish ; ring superior, mem-
bianaceous, broad, soft, pendulous, ascending a t th e m a rg in ; fle sh soft,
w h ite ; gills entirely free, broad, crowded, ventricose, white th en pallid I n
damp woods ; a very d istinct species.—Frie s.

Inodorous, fleshy; cuticle continuous or broken into sc a le s; stem
attenuated ^ downwards, stuffed with cottony threads, scaly below th e
fugacious ring, silky above ; gills crowded, rounded before and behind free
white, with a pale yellow tinge. ^

Pileus an inch and a h a lf across, n o t a t all campanulate, expanded and
broadly, obtusely umbo n a te ; flesh thick in th e centre, firm and tough, the
cuticle broken in to minute flat scales of a rich red -b row n ; gills numerous,
unequal, rounded before and behind, broad, ventricose, quite free th e
margin se rrulate, white with a slight yellowish tin g e ; stem one inch hio-fi
th ree-e ighths of an in ch thick in th e middle, divided into two d i s t i ^ t
portions, the upper silky, of a pin k ish hue, th e lower scaly, like the pileus,
b u t th e scales hinwner, a tten u a ted a t th e base, hollow, stuffed, with fine
silky filaments, with many b ranched fibrous ro o ts ; ring fugacious, attached
m minute portions to th e edge of th e pileus. Inodorous and insipid. —
