Pileus very fleshy, convexo-qflane, obtuse, two to th re e inches wide,
viscid, at length silky-fibrous or scaly, of an orange-tawny c o lo u r; stem
solid, short, deqiressed above the bulb, equal, yellow from th e veil, densely
fibrous, woolly, when full-grown lengthened to th re e in ch e s ; flesh very
compact, light yellow, a t length sp o n g y ; gills emarginate, th re e lines broad,
ra th e r crowded, perfectly entire, a t first b rig h t yellow, th e n more d istan t
tawny or ferruginous from th e spores, which tinge even th e wool of th e
stem. P ileus sometimes scaly, brown-yellow. I n pine-woods.—Fries.
