H e b e l o m a stipite valido, cavo, fibroso-molli, apice squamulis floccosis obsesso,
albo ; pileo sinuoso-repando ; lamellis emarginato-liberis, albido-sordidis.
Odore grato farinae.
Pileus fleshy, irregular-convex th en flattened, obtuse, smooth, glabrous,
viscid when young, soon dry, three to six inches wide (but n o t equalling
th e len g th of th e stalk), tawny or pale, very sinuous, ben t backwards, with
s tria te d membranaceous m a rg in ; stem strong, hollow, four to six inches
long, one to one and a h a lf inch thick, equal, fibrillose and striated, at
first covered with floccose scales a t th e apex, white ; Jlesh thick, soft, ra th e r
fleshy, w h ite ; gills somewhat adnate, broadly emarginate-free, appearing
remote, h u t touching th e stem by a narrow to o th , dry, crowded, often wavy,
a t first d irty wliite, th en becoming ferruginous from th e colour of the
spores. I n leafy woods. Generally a broad species, compact when young,
soft when old, of a feeble b u t pleasant o d o u r; sometimes considerably
smaller th an th e above measurements.—Frie s.
Pileus covered with sh o rt tomentum, a t first flat th en reversed, with
th e margin much w'aved an d lobed; stem stuffed; gills at first pale nankeen-
colour. th e n darker of th e same tin t. T h e fungus emits a strong smell
like meal.
Growing on th e ground. Greenings, Charlwood, 29th Aug. 1868. Some
old specimens of th is fungus, fully grown, measured nine to ten inches
across in a h o rizontal direction.
