Pileus fleshy, compact, convex, th en plane, very obtuse, generally bent
backwards and often eccentric, th re e to five inches or more wide, glabrous,
somewhat viscid when fresh, argillaceous, uniform in colour or pale yellow
on th e d isk ; gills deeply emarginate, th re e to five lines broad, crowded,
b rittle , opaque, cinnamon-coloured, always dry, and n o t s p o tte d ; stem
stout, rigid, subsolid, th re e to five inches long, one inch thick, equal or
fusiform-radicate, fibro-striated, white with white scales a t th e a p e x ; flesh
white. H a b ita t in woods and damp places. E a sily distinguished by the
absence of a veil, and th e strong radish-like odour.—Fries.
Pileus leathery, with a well-marked rim ; gills of a pale dull yellowish
brown, very erose on the m a rg in ; spores dull reddish brown.
