Phlegmaoium stipite marginato, apice purpurasceute ; pileo variegato, carne lutea
sub pellicula violascente; lamellis adnatis, confertis, purpurascente-ferru-
gineis.
Pileus fleshy, convex th en plane, a t len g th depressed, th re e to four
inches wide, viscid, glabrous, tu rn in g p u rp le and yellow in th e disk, and at
length variegated with lilac ; stem marginate, bulbous, stuffed, th re e inches
long, h a lf an inch th ick , fibrous, yellow, shining, tu rn in g purple a t th e
apex, yellow w ith in ; gills adnate or sinuate, slightly rounded, ra th e r
crowded, th re e lines broad, entire, a t length tu rn in g an iron-purple c o lo u r ;
fle sh ye llow ; spores ferruginous, ‘0004" x 0003". A very elegant fungus,
of a mild odour and ta s te .—Fries.
