C o l l y b ia stipite fistuloso, rufo, undique villo denso albo pulverulento; pileo
leviter carnoso, tenace, flaccido ; lamellis liberis, confertissimis, anous-
tissimis, linearibus, ex incarnato albidis.
Pileus somewhat fleshy b u t tenacious, flaccid, convex th en flattened, at
first obtuse, h u t th en broadly and obtusely umbonate, one inch or more
across, hygrophanous, damp, slightly stria ted at th e margin, dry, smooth,
entirely white ; stem fistulöse, very cartilaginous, th re e to five in ches long,
one line or more thick, ruddy, everywhere pulverulent with a white dense
down ; gills free, a t length remote from th e stem, very crowded, narrow,
linear, flesh-coloured then white. H ab ita t, dense woods of beech and fir.—
Fries.
Pileus of a pinkish huff-colour, when wet of a deep sandy brown ; gills
crowded ; stem compressed, hollow and covered with mealy erect velvet-like
pubescence, b luish grey, paler abo v e ; gills pale reddish buff. Often growing
in dense fasciculated masses, th e stems adhering to each o th e r at the
base.
