Clitocybe tota alba minor; stiqiite cartilagiueo-ceraceo, polito, fistuloso, mquah,
glabro, villoso; pileo umbilicato, n ite n ti; lamellis prime adnatis dein decur-
rentibus, confertis, rectis.
Pileus somewhat fleshy, convex th en plane and depressed, umbilicate,
an inch wide, regular or eccentric, smooth, when moist white, when dry
sh in in g ; stem of a waxy-cartilaginous texture, polished, fistulöse, equal, an
inch to two inches long, a line to two lines tliick, smooth, glabrous, shining,
incurved a t th e base, rooting, v illo u s ; gills a t first adnate then decurrent,
crowded, very thin, narrow, straight, almost linear. E n tire ly white, small,
ra th e r tenacious, th e h ab it of th e stem approaching Omphalia. Among
deciduous leaves, especially of beech and alder, in damp qjlaces. A variety
occurs in fir-woods with th in n e r stem, ben t and glabrous a t the base ; pileus
plane, n a k e d ; and gills scarcely d ecurrent.—Fries.
Pileus in advanced specimens much waved and lobed at the margin,
inclined to split and becoming d e p re ss e d ; stem solid above, hollow below,
cylindrical. Whole fungus of a delicate yellowish white c o lo u r ; substance
very tender. Amongst moss and dead leaves in a wood near Eastbourne,
31st Aug. 1853.
