Clttooybe stipitibus densissime cæspitosis, apice subpruinosis ; pileo expaUente,
pellicula adnata ; lamellis adnatis, subconfertis.
Pileus fleshy, a t first convex, obtuse, even, naked, tu rn in g pallid,
cuticle adnate ; stem stuffed, unequal, somewhat pruinose above, grey or
dirty white ; gills adnate, ra th e r crowded, uniform in colour with the stem.
Rigid, subcartilaginous, sohd.
Var. polius. Densely cæspitose.—Fries.
Pileus smooth, d ark rich umber-brown ; stem bulbous, hollow at the
base ; gills dull french-white ; spores white and very abundant, length
•00034" ; flesh very tender, dark umber-brown. Growing on ashes in a
plant-pit, in masses of th re e to six together, Reigate, 11th Aug. 1860.
