Clitocybe substantia molli; stipite solido, oonico, subfibrilloso ; pileo carnoso,
fere obconicb ; lamellis longe decurrentibus, descendentibus, subdistantibus,
flaccidis, iutegerrimis.
Pileus fleshy, slightly convex, plane a t length almost obconical, very-
obtuse, an inch and a h a lf to two inches wide or more, smooth, glabrous,
e ith e r uniformly dusky or ashy livid or white round the margin, very rare ly
entirely w h ite ; stem solid, spongy within, conical, two inches long, h a lf an
inch or more th ick a t th e base, somewhat fibrous, liv id ; flesh lax, white,
th in towards th e margin ; gills decurrent, descending in a stra ig h t line,
ra th e r d istant, flaccid, quite entire, wide, entirely and persisten tly white or
varying with yellow. Of a pleasant odour and soft elastic substance.
H a b ita t, in woods, especially of pine.—Fries.
T h is species, h ith e rto unrecorded with certainty as B ritish , has
recently appeared in many qilaces ; the specimens figured were gathered in
E p p in g Fo re st, in Nov. 1870. Spores '0003" x '0002".
