Pileus fleshy, m o stlj'th ick , convex th en plane, obtuse, obsoletely viscid,
generally dry, yellow, smooth, and often c h in k y ; stem firm, stuffed, short,
an inch and a h a lf long, th re e lines or more thick, atten u a ted downwards,
smootli, n o t scalv, w h ite ; ring suqierior, deflexed, wliite ; flesh comqoact,
sh in in g ; gills adnate, -n'ithout any decurrent tooth, crowded, plane, white
th en purple. On heaps of clay. E a sily mistaken for an Armillaria.—Fries.
Pileus yellow straw-colour, d a rk e r a t th e apex, leathery, with smooth
m a rg in ; gills extremelj' close, ashy brown, at first nearly white and finally
changing to dark qiurplish grey ; stem stout, slightly hollow, furnished with
a rin g nearly white ; flesh white. On th e downs amongst sh o rt grass near
Beachy Head, Sussex.

Stropharia stipite medullato-farcto, undique fiocculoso-villoso, sericello, sicco ;
annulo incomplete laceroque, margini pilei vulgo adhierente; pileo carnoso,
viscidulo, glabro, udo, hygropbano, e luteo stramiueo; lamellis adiiato-
decurrentibus.
Pileus fleshy, a t first obtusely campanulate, th en convex and finally
plane, gibbous, two inches wide, smooth, viscid, yellow, with a th in smooth
m a rg in ; stem tenacious, stuffed, two to th re e inches long, two to three
lines th ick , equal, somewhat flexuose, everywhere floccose-villous, silky, dry,
whitish, covered with a whitish villosity a t th e base, stria ted a t the apex
from th e decurrent te e th of th e laminae ; ring incomplete and torn, adhering
to th e margin of th e pileus ; fle sh white ; gills adnate-decurrent, somewhat
crowded, soft, bro ad e st behind, at first pallid th en brown from th e dusky
almost black spores. Gregarious, subciespitose. I n dungy qilaces.—F lie s.
