CiVRYOPiiYLLUS, Linn. From Icaryon, a nut,
and phyllony a leaf ; referring to the a})pearance
of the llower-buds. Linn, 12, Or. 1,
Nat. Or. Myrthcece. The species aromáticus
grows to aliout twenty feet high, and produces
the article known as cloves. It grows best in
a mixture of sandy peat and loam, in a strong
steady heat. The plants are rather scarce,
owing to the difficulty of keeping tliem in
winter ; cuttings in sand root readily under a
glass, in a moist heat.

soil, or loam and peat mixed ; some produce

A quifoliacece. An ornam ental genus, from
one to six feet high ; and one species, C. cxcélsa,
grows eighteen feet high. They thrive
in a composition of loam and peat, and cnttii]
gs of the matured wood root freely in sand

parasites, resembling very much the habit and
character of the genus Cuscuta, and will succeed
